Bay Street Breakfast Club

Membership Information PDF Print E-mail

The Bay Street Breakfast Club was founded in 1990. Some of the founding members are still with us, and we also have several new members who have joined the club within the past year. This range of experience provides a rich environment for the development of our public speaking skills. Our weekly meeting venue is graciously provided by Scotiabank. We currently have a number of Scotiabank employees as members of our club, but are open to all members and guests.

Membership
Our club constitution allows a maximum of 55 members. Membership renewal is in early September, but new members are welcome to join at any time during the year provided we have space available. If you wish to become a member of our club, we recommend that you attend several meetings as a guest to determine if our club suits your needs.

Our Goals
As well as developing our speaking skills as individuals, our goal is to make each meeting a successful effort in teamwork. Take a look at a sample agenda to see how we accomplish this. We also do our best to assist in the development of each members' speaking skills. For this purpose, we have a mentoring programme in place.

Mentoring
The Bay Street Breakfast Club provides a mentor for each new member. Mentors help new members with their Ice Breaker speech. They also provide encouragement when doubts arise, and they answer questions about the various roles and responsibilities required of a Toastmaster. The support provided to new members has contributed greatly to our distinction as one of the best Toastmasters clubs in the district.

Our Accomplishments
Toastmasters International awards points to clubs that reach certain goals during the year. Since its founding, The Bay Street Breakfast Club has received many awards and in 2009 achieved President's Distinguished Status for the ninth year in a row. These awards demonstrate the level of mutual support and co-operation among the members of our club. For more information see our History and Achievements page.
