Bay Street Breakfast Club

Honouring Our Founders PDF Print E-mail
Written by Andrew MacDonald

At Bay Street Breakfast Club we have the opportunity to benefit from the wisdom of some of our founding members. Not only do these members support our club, many of them are present at almost every meeting. Having such experienced Toastmasters at our meetings nearly two decades later is just one of the factors ensuring we are able to run such high quality meetings.

Over the years these members have served as club officers, mentors to new and existing members, and fulfilled regular meeting roles and delivered speeches with great enthusiasm; a quality which has proved contagious among our members.

To express our gratitude for their contribution in founding and fostering the growth of a premier Toastmasters club, we have decided to expand our named awards to honor some our founding members who are still quite active at BSBC today. This year, the following awards will be given:

Michael Eades Unsung Hero Award
Michael Eades, a member of The Bay Street Breakfast Club and a Scotiabanker, passed away February 18, 1996 after a courageous and inspirational battle with cancer.  Michael’s friends remember his gentleness, integrity,
courage, wit, impressive command of the English language and his ready willingness to help others.  Bay Street Breakfast Club has established an annual award to celebrate his memory and to recognize one of our members who exemplifies his quiet dedication to service.

Rob Peck Ice Cap Award
This award will be given to the person who delivered the most memorable speech or meeting role over the past year.

Ian Miller Quip and Quote Award
This award will be given to the person who has most improved as a Table Topics Speaker this year.

Sharon Chandler Hope Award
This award will be presented to the most improved Speaker over the past year.

Scott McAthey Kindness and Care Award
This award will be presented to the best speech evaluator of the year.

We appreciate our founding members and are happy to offer four new awards in their honour. Be sure to cast your votes and attend our May 5th “Best of the Best” awards meeting to find out the 2009-10 award winners.
